For the fifth edition of Monumenta (9th

(French artist, painter and sculptor) takes possession
of the nerve of Grand Palais in Paris. His work
Excentrique(s), travail in situ attracts
259 000 people.
Daniel Buren uses for his work :
the light, the colour, the movement, the architecture and the sound.
People can walk under yellow, green,
blue and orange enormous circles. This remember us the architecture
of Grand Palais who is based only on circular forms.
In the middle, we have a space
completely empty. On the floor there are mirrors where we can sit,
and observe the central dome witch is reflected by different colors.
Daniel Buren invites the public to get
lost in the circles forest, to better discover the architecture of Grand
Palais.
This masterpiece isn't only visual, it
is also auditive. In fact, world's voices pronounce the four
colors'name of way repetitive. Loudspeakers permit people to hear
noises everywhere.
To finish, we can say that
Daniel Buren plays again on the relationship between painting and
material. This deserve him in 2007 the Nobel Prize Visual Arts. (190)
