Bruegel : The mill and the cross

Pieter Bruegel is generally considered the greatest Flemish painter of the 16th century. He lived about 1525-1569. He developed an original style that uniformly holds narrative, or story-telling, meaning.

Last year, in 2011, a film name’s « The mill and the Cross » spoke about Bruegel life and, the most important, describe the flamish life during this period. The film focuses on a specific part of picture of Bruegel and translate each part of the picture in the movie. The painting literally comes to life. Thanks to this process the viewer is immersed into the picture, and he can see what Bruegel want to express : the importance of the religion, hard living conditions, work, but also hope and joy. Step by step the picture is built. At the end, each viewer can say « i know this picture, i travelled in », that’s exactly what Lech Majewski, the film director, wanted.
