Oslo, August 31st

WEEK 1 : Annaïck GUENA

In his second movie, Oslo, August 31st, Joachim Trier, norwegian director, adapts the Pierre Drieu La Rochelle's novel, Le Feu follet, like Louis Malle did it in 1963. He proposes a dramatic, melancholic and brilliant movie.

Joachim Trier tells us one day of the life of Anders, a recovering drug addict, who leaves the rehab clinic for a rehabilitation day. After a job interview, he meets old friends and gets caught up by his past. During this rowing in Oslo, he searches for a reason to continue living. The ordinary moments could they be enough? Or drugs and suicide are the only one solution?

In the scandinavian crystalline light and under the spell of electronic musics, Joachim Trier shows a man who isn't able to dream, desire, hope or take pleasure in any little things. Doesn't he?
