The last week in Bordeaux took place the Kino Meetings. Basically, it’s a movement from Quebec created in 1999. The concept is funny. The end of the world is close and announced in 2000. A group of friends in Montreal take up a challenge : to produce one film per month, waiting for the end of the world. From this point, a creative initiative is launched and get across the Atlantic Ocean. This idea arrived in Bordeaux in 2005 and the Kino Sessions were born.
The aim is to show to people that it’s simple to make cinema with little things and especially that cinema’s creation is open to everyboby.
This experience has been developed in more 14 countries and it’s promoting free and independant cinematographic creation.
Principles of Kino Session are simple : every two months, a public broadcast is displayed. Creations are presented to the public and people vote for the next conditions of direction.
The first Kino International Meetings took place under the first International Festival of Independant Cinema in Bordeaux. Advocating for similar values for cinema’s developpement, they got associated to meet professional and amateur filmmakers.
