A new book, gathering more than a hundred
unpublished and recently discovered paintings by Magritte has been given to the Magritte Foundation,
including 12 years of the artist’s works. Among those, not only paintings but
also many works on paper are part of this incredible discovery. Those works –
probably created during his Surrealist phase - explore Magritte recurrent
motives, symbols and themes he liked to focus on during his career. Deconstruction
of the elements, gloomy atmospheres are part of these strange works newly
discovered, and specialists agree to say it’s very difficult to date precisely
the period during which Magritte realized those works for they are so different
and diverse.
