Ordinary Scandal

Nowadays, internship has become a compulsory stage for any young graduate. Any student has to enter the work market with experience. And no one has dared pointing out the obvious contradiction : how can a newly born worker have serious experience ? When has this nonsense become normal ?

Some might be taking advantage of that situation. Employing free workers seems not to offend anyone, under crisis circumstances. The problem is, if some desperate  young people accept such conditions, there is no place left for protest.

Maybe because culture is said to be prestigious, people accept bad working conditions ("it demonstrates that you are committed" says Kathryn Newman, young graduate). Students preparing a career in the cultural field should really wonder if it is worth living a life in a domain that pays with reputation and intellectual rewards.

Fortunately, Nick Clegg has enlighten a social issue : only wealthy young people can afford working for no income, which prevent any social mobility in the cultural sphere. As a result, young people coming from diversity can take advantage of some social programs. Even though it remains rare.

Situation may be tough for museums, however, human dignity and respect should stay on top of their list.
