Gallmeister, a publishing house specialized in American literature
Week 2: Justine Barbe
This literature reminds
the large spaces in the West and the North of United-States. The publisher’s
logo, a bear paw, is a symbol of this wild.
The Gallmeister’s collection
“Nature Writing” reveals the descendants of Fennimore Cooper, Jack London and
Marc Twain to readers.
However, the catalog
is also opened at detective novels and urban contemporary texts.
In 2010, the
publisher developed a paperbacks collection: “Totem”. This name is inspired by Ojibwé
Amerindians. It’s a reference to the United-States origins.
The same year, the
David Vann’s novel, Sukkwan Island, was
traduced and published. This text took advantage of a high success in France. The
author was awarded with the Médicis Prize.
