Week 7 (Marina PB): Ethan Hawke in a new tchekovian play

Apparently, Tchekov may sometimes be extremely boring. According to the journalist who wrote this article, the new play Ivanov, starring the well-known actor Ethan Hawke, is desperatly boring. Yet, we find here all the elements that usually make up Tchekov's plays : corroding time that inevitably distroys joys and hopes, tortured souls, tragic and impossible love as well as fears about the future, the past and even the present.
Ethan Hawke winces, overplays and discredits the play. Reading the article, it seems obvious that the journalist isn't very enthusiastic about Tchekov in general, and about this adaptation lately presented in New-York.Tchekovian themes may frequently be desperating and overwhelming. Therefore, the play needs to be particularly well-interpreted and the performances to be absolutely perfect and touching to make the play fascinating, which isn't the case according to the journalist who ends up saying it was nothing but extremely tedious.
