The last James Bond, directed by Sam Mendes («Away We Go», «Revolutionary Road»), certainly inaugurates a new James Bond style and esthetics.
Bond (Daniel Craig) is no more a super heros, using gadgets, or having a foaming bath with a beautiful girl between two adventures. This new James Bond is more dark, injured, ironic sometimes, maybe a little alcoholic (!), but so sure of his goal. Bond’s ennemy (Javier Bardem) is ... blond. And maybe gay - we can’t really know. But he’s also a real monster, terribly wounded by some past events.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of James Bond films, Sam Mendes has wanted to describe the fight between past and present, the ancient and the new world. For example, Q, the quartermaster is no longer an old man how created intelligent cars and brand new gadgets (like an explosive pen). Q is a new recruit, a kind of geek, who is not taking seriously by Bond at the first time. But, soon, we discover a brillant character, who feel at ease with new data processing.
«Skyfall» also reveals some parts of James Bond’s childhood : it reinforces the depth of the main character. With this new Sam Mendes' film, we can have the feeling that this timeless character has always been a real testimony of the history of cinema.
