No longer Art : Salvage Art Institute
The GSAPP (Graduate School
of Architecture Planning and Preservation) at Columbia University
(New-York) has opened, on 14 November 2012, No longer Art :
Salvage Art Institute. This exhibition, organized with Elka
Krajewska, shows damaged works of art.
Elka
Krajewska is an
artist. She has created the Salvage Art Institute with the aim of
give a second life to damaged works of art. « Salvage art »
is the name given to piece of art removed from the art market because
of an accident : hole, scratch, stain, broken sculpture and so
one.
La
Moisson, by Alexandre
Dubuisson, Balloon dog
sculpture, by Jeff
Koons, Solo Tu Recuerdo
Sigue Aquí, by Miguel
Florido belong to this category. They are devoided of financial value
and forgotten by the world of art when they are almost intact.
The
point of this exhibition is to question the frontiers between art and
no art. What kind of indications can be given to determinated when an
object is a work of art ? When is not the case anymore ?
An
other good point is that, for once, there is no obstacle between art
and people : they can touch, even take, almost everything they
see.
