Actually in theater, an exhibition and a retrospective of Marcel Carné… October is the month of the Children of Paradise in “La cinémathèque française”. Thanks to the donation of Marcel Carné’s daughter who gives the original script of this movie and other precious document as photography or letter. It’s the origin of a major exhibition and the occasion to see this mythic movie… one more time…
This movie is about love.
In Paris in
the 19th century, Garance a young poor woman meets Baptiste Debureau who is a theater
mime at the Boulevard du crime a well
known street in France which was a kind of artistical center in Paris at the
end of the century. Garance is also loved by three other men: Frederick who is
a young actor who is craving for fame, Lacenaire who is a gangster and the
count Eduard of Monteray who can give her all she wants for living… Between
love and hate, fear and joy, happiness and sorrow, do Baptiste and Garance will
find their truly love together?
This movie
directed by Marcel Carné and written by Jacques Prévert was produced in 1945.
It is actually projected in theater in Paris and other cities in France (not Bordeaux
unfortunately).
The exhibition
is about this movie and its production in the “Cinémathèque Francaise” which
shows all the artistical process of this story, the reality and the myth, the
mistakes made by doing a movie during the Second World war…
