Top prize for Rust and Bone

Mathilde Fourgeot - Week 7

After A Prophet in 2009, the 20th October of 2012 Jacques Audiard won a second time the prize for  « best movie » at the 56th BFI London festival with his film Rust and Bone . The film won the jury’s favor and especially David Hare, the president of the competition jury. He said « Jacques Audiard has a unique handwriting, made up of music, montage, writing, photography, sound, visual design and acting (…) Rust and Bone, a film full of heart, violence and love ».

This French-Belgian production with the Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts deals with a dramatic love story. Stephanie (Marion Cotillard), an orca trainer, has suffered a terrible accident and lost her legs. She met Ali (Matthias Schoenaerts), a club bouncer. Two complex personalities, two hypersensitive characters, who fell in love. A special love. First only physically. Then with deeper feelings. The hazards of life encounter these two characters for better and for worse. (160)
