IglooFest - Week 5 - Justine Barnier


The first feature of the festival : he took place in January, on the outside in the Old Port of Montreal while temperatures are similar to -30 °C.
Created in 2007, this festival offers a electronic music program. Became an essentiel event in North America about Electronic music, it receive the most of international DJ’s. It takes place during three weekend.
The fisrt objective of this festival is to democratize and to introduce electronic music to people.
Real gathering for lover of electronic music, it promoted electronic culture and artistic movements that are associated : VJing, Light art, contemporary art and photography, fashion design…
All furnitures of the event is carved in ice : igloos, bar, tables, chairs, sofas… and many artists or people sculpt in live.
It quickly became very popular and almost 70 000 people were present in January 2012.

The organizing and security teams of festival and volunteers see to this event goes smouthly. They impose safety and caring rules concerning danger of cold with a lot of humour

It is interesting to observe the composition of public of this manifestation. Also electronic music fans, a lot of people come to discover . Electronic and underground movement seems to be less a stereotype in Canada.
