21 Balançoires - Daily Tous les jours

An Exercice in musical cooperation

Annaïck Guena

Last spring, the International digital arts Biennale of Montreal chaged the Quartier des spectacles in real open-air laboratory for digital arts. For three weeks, artists turned on the public space in gallery for new media arts.

The Canadian design collective "Daily Tous les jours" installed 21 interactive and musical swings on the place. This installation, realized in collaboration with the Faculty of sciences of Quebec's University, was a real giant collective and cooperative instrument : one swing, one note. The melody, composed by Radwan Ghazi-Moumneh, changed with people who swung. The music and the creation depended of the behavior of each person. This installation was, in fact, a three weeks happening.

With this artistic game, these artists wanted to wonder about "live better together". "Daily Tous les jours" created "a place for playing and hanging out in the middle of the city center".

They concept digital installations and believe in the creative participation. They realize giant games and invite people to participate and create, "to have a place in the stories taht are told around them". Their objective is the creation of collective experiences.
Any seconds, any minutes to see the beauty of the life. (193)
